A typical trip to Coney Island is filled with rides, foods, drinks, laughter, the smells and sounds of the ocean, and beautiful weather. While visiting Coney Island in March, instead of the boardwalk overflowing with activity, Brooklyn was just recovering from a cold, drawn out winter. Despite its lifeless and empty facade, the day was gorgeous and the colors were lively. New York had seen nothing but bitter cold and grey skies for months, and yet I was standing on the boardwalk absorbing my surroundings under a sky of crisp, cloudless, blue with the sun on my neck and camera in hand. Viewing the contradiction between the life of spring emerging and this deserted carnival, I managed to catch images of Coney Island that are only familiar to dedicated boardwalk joggers and carnival workers.
